Banking on Land (About Khoo Boo Yeang)

Posted by: KM Lee In: Real Estate

Recently my boss is featured in the Ma$tery Magazine (Issue June 2009, Pg.12). I feel so inspired after reading about his life and the things he have done; perhaps that’s the reason why I enjoy working with him. Here’s the article I would like to share with you:

Khoo Boo Yeang is not afraid to share his breadth of knowledge, and his time too – this generous man is a true philanthropist at heart.

Khoo Boo Yeang - Banking on Land

When you’re an entrepreneur, you’re always thinking ahead – and that’s exactly what Khoo Boo Yeang, Head (Project Marketing) of Raine & Horne International Penang is doing. He’s also the Head in Penang of TSI International Group Inc. from Canada, where he helps to promote their business in Malaysia. He has a vision of seeing Malaysians preserving and maximising their wealth in a resource-rich country like Canada, and his mission is simple: Helping people to create, preserve and maximise wealth in rising and falling markets, through the PROVEN concept of land value creation.

His contribution to social services is by no mean a small endeavour – he gives what is most precious of all: TIME! This 60-plus year old businessman still takes time out of his hectic schedule to visit the children’s ward of the General Hospital to twist balloons for sick children once a month and also particpates in charity events, doing up balloon sculptures and selling vegetable burgers and hotdogs, all in the name of charity.

He also devotes a lot of time with Toastmasters International, helping people who are fearful of public speaking to gain confidence by overcoming their fears and develop leadership qualities.

The Interview

How did you get started in Land Banking business?

I’ve been in sales all my life, with multi-national marketing companies like Diethelm and Inchcape to housing developers, hotels, and lately in real estate agency. It was in Raine & Horne International, Penang that I was introduced to Land Banking, international real estate in addition to our domestic market. My belief in this formidable product gave me the passion to grow my business in this alternative form of investment instrument. I now have about 40 consultants in Penang alone and we service a large number of high net worth clientele.

What is a day in your life like?

I start my day when almost half the morning is over because I have very late nights… not at the disco, but on my laptop! I’m busy blogging and updating my various websites and portals in travel, hotel accommodation, real estate, networking, and affiliate marketing. Most afternoons are spent at meetings, and as they say “doing business, drinking coffee, telling stories.” My websites are at Penang Resort and Penang Net. My blog is Land Banking Blog.

What do you like most about working for yourself?

I can do what I want, when I want and with whom I want! I can make (and have made) lots of mistakes working for myself, and some of these mistakes are quite expensive ones, but they are invaluable lessons for which the end results justify the means. You tend to extend beyond the limit working for yourself and that’s where the end result is personal satisfaction.

What is the most challenging part of running a business?

It all depends on how much stake, or capital you have invested into the venture. It can be very distressing and stressful if you are not doing well and you see all your savings drying up. It’s akin to when I was running a hotel in Penang during the haze crisis in 1997.

But now I have a business with no money down. Anyone can make money with no money down doing Land Banking business with TSI International Group Inc. All you need is a positive mental attitude and a passion to share your knowledge with people.

The challenges here are developing human potential, beating your own targets regardless of the market situation, and having the ability to see opportunity in every crisis.

Is there anyone in particular that you look up to, or is there someone who has inspired you to greater heights?

Warren Buffet and my spiritual master, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji.

What’s your favourite quote?

“Let Go and Let God”. I also believe in Zig Ziglar’s philosophy: “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want”.

What words of advice would you like to impart to readers of the magazine?

There is abundance in the universe. Make a life, not a living. Live life with passion. Believe in the divine.

“You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
